| This was the first Saturday in a month that I didn't have anywhere I had to be. Needed this soooo much!! This whole month has been a huge drain on my mental/physical/emotional well-being. It was so wonderful to just have one day where I didn't have to be "on". Even did some of the dishes - a chore that's been put off for the past couple weeks. Who knows, maybe tomorrow I'll even do laundry.
Tomorrow is going to be busy, though. The primary program is tomorrow morning, which I'm playing piano for. Then the neighbors are having a building-wide get together in the afternoon. And at some point tomorrow, my home teachers are supposed to come over. Ok, maybe laundry will wait until Monday.

| So, I got an email the other day about NaNoWriMo coming up. And crazily enough, I'm thinking of trying it again. I failed miserably the last time because a)I tend to overthink when I write and b)I not actually a fan of writing. I love to read and sometimes come up with ideas for fics. But actually putting words to paper/screen is terribly difficult.
So why after not writing in this journal all year am I contemplating completing a 50,000 word novel during November? Well, every time I tell my friends about the latest goofiness about my family, I usually call it the latest episode of "As the Family Turns." This usually prompts a comment about writing a book someday. Maybe it's time. These last few months in particular have been rich with family craziness. Maybe this will be a way to exorcise some of the family demons.
Ok, so technically it's a memoir instead of a novel. Which will make me a NaNo Rebel. That's alright. The important part will be writing all of this down. I'm still not sure if I'll take the challenge or not. But perhaps if I write in a journal daily from now until Nov 1, it will get me in the habit of writing daily and I'll be less hesitant about starting the novel. We'll see.

| I really love the beginning of a new year! Time to put all the regrets and mistakes of the past year behind and start fresh. 2009 wasn't the best of years, exactly. Lots of struggle with depression, weight issues, health, etc. The job went pretty well, though. And I still have a good place to live and two wonderful, occasionally goofy kitties. I have two cute nephews and two even cuter nieces that I got to spoil. And this was the year I got to go to Comic Con and meet Richard Hatch and see John Barrowman and get some great loot. And for a bonus I got to do it all with one of my best friends. So 2009 may not have been the absolute best, but parts of it were definitely awesome.
Best wishes to the entire Flist for a Happy and Healthy 2010!

| Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Thought I'd offer this fic rec of the day. Secrets by Vorabiza Summary: Beginning with Draco's unexpected arrival at the Dursleys, Harry's summer after sixth year becomes filled with activity and many secrets. As his summer progresses, Harry generates several unexpected allies as he finds himself actively becoming the leader of the Light side. Category: Slash, Harry/Draco Rating: NC-17 This is my absolute favorite alternative for the seventh book. Beginning only a week or two after HBP ends, this fic features a realistically maturing and determined Harry, a true to form but changing Draco and a wonderful supporting cast that never feels slighted or out of character. If you don't spend the day napping off your turkey dinner, give this fic a whirl! Edited - forgot the link. Whoops. | |

| A Nick in Time by Tira Nog Summary:Harry Potter and Severus Snape awake to an unusual development on Boxing Day. (Deaging fic) Category: Harry/Severus pre-slash. Rating: PG I really enjoyed this fic - showed two characters desparately in need of a stable family have that vital experience for a short while. What's neat about it though is that the author doesn't make that experience a cure-all for the characters' problems, but instead follows up with a moving sequel that explores the rocky aftermath of the deaging experience. Highly recommended! | |

| How pathetic is it that I joined Twitter just so I can cyberstalk Tom Felton? | |

| It's hard for me to put my life into words on a page. So to just get in the habit, I'm going to try to at least put down a link or rec or review most days, even if that's all I post. Here goes nothing: Current obsession: the games at King.comThese games are short and very addictive. You have to sign up to play, but that's free and then you can play as many times as you like. There's tournaments and stuff too, but all I want to do is get higher and higher scores. Current faves include Pet Rescue, Cat Corner and Honey Combo. | |

| I’m determined to be productive today. Holiday’s too often dissolve into extra TV watching and napping rather than catching up. But after the last week of craziness, I really need to feel like things are taken care of here at home. So, laundry, sweeping, meal prep, and other projects are on the agenda for the day.
Last week’s craziness hit an all time high on Thursday when I ended up taking my boss’ boss to the emergency room. He was visiting from out of town for a couple days and seemed to be fine most of the time. Then on Thursday about two hours before he was going to leave, he had a dizzy spell while sitting at a desk. He told my boss that he needed to lay down, so we put him in G’s office (the only one with a couch). After about a half hour, I went and checked on him. He wasn’t really pale anymore and said he was feeling better but would like to stay over one more night. So I walked him back to his desk and made the flight/hotel arrangements. When I came back with the revised itinerary, he said he was starting to get dizzy again and that he probably ought to see a doctor. Since I knew I had the most flexible schedule, I volunteered to take him to the emergency room at Missouri Baptist. So off we went. I gotta tell you, I’m pretty good in a crisis. But figuring out what to talk about with an executive vice president on the way to the emergency room was one of the strangest things ever. Fortunately, there was no waiting at MoBap and they took him back right away. After running tests for about 1 and a half hours, they concluded that he probably had a virus affecting the inner ear. They gave him shots for nausea and vertigo along with a prescription for vertigo and he looked much better. I took him to Walgreens (how surreal that was, sitting in the little chairs at the back of the store waiting for his prescription to be filled) and then back to work. My boss and our local VP were happy to see him looking and feeling better. I’m glad I could help, but it was generally a strange event.
